  • cuties!

doing a big series of illustrated pages for a research deck we’re putting together, and i get to draw various ladies! (well, only two ladies, but in various situations.) i get to make them as cute as i like. so i did. here they are, in progress.

lady #1 is an ethnically ambiguous young urban mother who has a fun style sense. she also works (hence the laptop bag).

lady #1 now has an updo and necklace for an evening outing with friends.

TEE HEE aren’t they cute? more updates when i’m done.

  • oh em gee another infographic.

pretty sure I never want to even look at another chevy volt or nissan leaf again. especially after completing this whole thing in a day, and then realizing I had just drawn the concept version of the volt. but I’m happy with the final graphic :) (click to enlarge)

  • my first illusgaytion!

dear friend and amazing soon-to-be art director Greg Kozatek bestowed on me the honor of doing an illusgaytion for gayvorites, and it’s finally done and posted!

read the full article (detailed instructions for how to create an equally breath-taking sock monkey as the one pictured above) here.

I loove love gayvorites: America’s premiere research corporation investigayting all things GLBTQ. spend some time perusing these cleverly written articles, always accompanied by so many fantastic illustrations done by fellow risd friends .. !

  • becoming more cultured.

being the youngest person in the office means people are constantly talking about movies, tv shows and musicians/songs that took place around the time I was born. couple that with the fact that I’m pretty culturally-unaware and the result is people always exclaiming over me not having heard of [fill in the blank].

so here are some things I learned this past week:

    1. george michael. and not the one from arrested development, whom I do happen to know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diYAc7gB-0A

    2. lionel richie. nicole richie’s dad. I didn’t know this, and now it makes a lot more sense who the hell nicole richie is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiLziusKW4s

    3. alf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALF_%28TV_series%29

    4. doogie howser. I learned of this a few weeks ago, but I’m still including it here. neil patrick harris looks EXACTLY the same as a child! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doogie_Howser,_M.D.

    5. adventures of the gummi bears. I think I might just barely remember this from my own childhood, but if so I’d since completely forgotten. and now I have the theme song stuck in my head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loUNoy0Qub0

more to come in the future!

  • a tribute to kwok-yee tai

my aunt (technically my aunt’s sister, not blood related to me) recently passed away after a long fight with scleroderma. she was a wonderful artist. beautifully simplistic lines, forms, and colors.

we’re putting together a gallery show of all her work, and the opening reception will be next Friday, February 18th, from 6–8pm. it’s at Gallery 456 (456 Broadway) in SoHo NYC.

chris and I put together a website last night for the show, which will eventually turn into a gallery of her work and potentially a place to purchase prints / originals. hope you can take a few minutes to browse the work, and join us for the show if you’re around!
