cuties!
doing a big series of illustrated pages for a research deck we’re putting together, and i get to draw various ladies! (well, only two ladies, but in various situations.) i get to make them as cute as i like. so i did. here they are, in progress.
lady #1 is an ethnically ambiguous young urban mother who has a fun style sense. she also works (hence the laptop bag).
lady #1 now has an...
oh em gee another infographic.
pretty sure I never want to even look at another chevy volt or nissan leaf again. especially after completing this whole thing in a day, and then realizing I had just drawn the concept version of the volt. but I’m happy with the final graphic :) (click to enlarge)
check out the whole article on our newest site for GE, the txchnologist.
cute wedding invites
so cute. see more on behance.
been thinking a lot about wedding invites, and what on earth I’d want mine to look like when the time comes. i have no idea at all. there are so many good options! makes me nervous.

my first illusgaytion!
dear friend and amazing soon-to-be art director Greg Kozatek bestowed on me the honor of doing an illusgaytion for gayvorites, and it’s finally done and posted!
read the full article (detailed instructions for how to create an equally breath-taking sock monkey as the one pictured above) here.

becoming more cultured.
being the youngest person in the office means people are constantly talking about movies, tv shows and musicians/songs that took place around the time I was born. couple that with the fact that I’m pretty culturally-unaware and the result is people always exclaiming over me not having heard of [fill in the blank].
so here are some things I learned this past week:
1. george michael. and not...

a tribute to kwok-yee tai
my aunt (technically my aunt’s sister, not blood related to me) recently passed away after a long fight with scleroderma. she was a wonderful artist. beautifully simplistic lines, forms, and colors.
we’re putting together a gallery show of all her work, and the opening reception will be next Friday, February 18th, from 6–8pm. it’s at Gallery 456 (456 Broadway) in SoHo...

how loud is a wind turbine?
my newest graphic for GE Reports below. wind turbines are pretty loud up close, but then again why would you live right next to the blade of a wind turbine? they’re quite quiet at a reasonable distance. read the full post at GE Reports.
information visualized.
at work, we’ve been busy creating content for GE Reports. I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to make quite a few graphics that are featured on the sites. check em out, and don’t forget to take a look at the accompanying posts!

back from vacation; into the real world.
Haven’t been tumblr-ing (tumbling?) much lately .. been caught up in graduating, moving to nyc, and starting my new job!
So here I am. The Big City. I’m the designer at a public relations/market research firm called Group SJR. It’s kind of strange being the only designer, although I’m working closely with people who have good design sense, and I’ve been doing a lot...

duality in earrings
my latest in jewelry! our assignment was to create a pair of earring that embodied the idea of “duality,” using silver wire. mine talks about the contrast between maturity and budding youth in life.
i like the forms a lot, but as earrings they don’t work all that well .. for some reason they just look really weird on the ear! oh well.
connect the dots!
probably one of my favorite people I’ve met while working at the providence children’s museum is my friend carole ann penney. we’ve known each other for quite a while now; when I first started at pcm, she was a senior at brown university who was also working there. she’s an amazing artist (check out some of my current favorites below) and it’s been such a privilege to...
i can illustrate!
an editorial illustration for an article in brown’s watershed magazine, talking about the psychology of eating. after doing so much type and so little real illustration .. I never knew I had it in me. tee hee what fun!
will update on my website soon :)
brightening up that april gloom
isn’t it gorgeous? I love how the tips are very slightly orange. seems like spring is trying to make its way into our lives .. although when I look out the window, I must say I’m not very convinced.
this beautiful bloom was gifted to me this evening at the providence children’s museum’s annual board meeting. I’ve been working there as a work-study student since my...
dinner at maeda's
I was invited to attend a lovely dinner at the [risd] president’s house this evening, and got the chance to meet some extremely interesting and intelligent people. we chatted a lot about how industries like health care and medicine can really tap into and take advantage of the kind of thinkers and makers that schools like risd produce. hopefully it will be the start of some strong ties...
*revised* in preparation for our senior show ..
.. I purchased a lovely three-tiered dessert stand for our food table. can’t wait to see it full of mini cupcakes .. macaroons .. and cookies .. oh boy! (observe the temporary prop cupcake used for this photoshoot)
can’t forget to give all the credit to my dear boyfriend, who saved me from unnecessarily spending more money on a less satisfactory product. oh, the joys of shopping...
greg + jen at kairos
a fellow illustration classmate and dear friend of mine, greg kozatek, and I attended a summit in new york city last weekend for the Kairos Society. we got a chance to meet several hundred other entrepreneurial college students from around the world, see what they’re up to, and exchange ideas. risd was the only art and design school invited to attend, so it was quite an experience for us to...
lately, what with my college career coming quickly to a close, i’m finding there are more and more things i need to be keeping track of in life. sadly i’ve realized my brain can only handle so much ..
flirt! packaging
trying my hand at some packaging design concepts :)
i’ll take more formal photos and upload them to my website sometime soon!
i'll post soon, i promise!
been hectic, as usual, but i’ve got plenty of goodies to come soon. stay tuned!
the sweetest desserts
i’ve been on spring break so i’ve been slacking a little and have not posted anything in a while .. but the other day i was at petite alma looking around for inspiration and i stumbled upon this woman i had previously found and tucked away in my brain. her name is amy atlas, and she makes the most stunning dessert tables at various kinds of events, from fun birthdays to gorgeous...

what should I name her?
Been working on my typeface for Cyrus’ type design class .. here’s a sneak preview!
the jpeg rendered kind of funny (the outlines are actually smooth, I promise!) but I think you get the idea.
I just finished all the lowercase today in class, but there’s still plenty of refining that needs to be done. and then uppercase .. and glyphs .. oh! and I want to make an accompanying...
something old, something new
First, one of the older pieces of work that I’m moving over from the experiments page of my website. This is a self-initiated little project I did on the printing press in the typeshop here at RISD. Just a cute linoleum block print for a valentine’s day card :)
and secondly (this I’m really excited about), my very first piece from the intro to jewelry course I’m taking...
type design: exercise
I’m taking type design this semester with Cyrus Highsmith, who works at font bureau, and it’s a dream come true. Drawing letters for hours = everything I’ve always wanted in life.
Anyway, here’s a quick exercise we did the first week or two. We could draw our name however we wanted ..
.. so I chose to draw it like this. Not really typical for Jen Wong .. but I think...

petite alma website + blog
Petite Alma, a children’s stationery company in New York City, is one of my favorite things to look at. They were right next door to where I interned this past summer, and I’ve been doing some freelance work for them here and there.
They simply have the cutest imagery, and an overall lovely sense of design in all their work. Check out their website and their blog. I love pretty much...
a new start
Time for a new start! Since I am beginning my search for a place in the real world, I decided I need somewhere to post the more whimsical things in my life. I’m going to slowly move some things here from my website, so keep on the lookout for updates!
Last wintersession, I was asked to make a hundred cupcakes for a relaxation event sponsored by health services on campus. Since it was...
